| Mr Lem Cheng Hai is the photographer and founder of DStudioLab, which started in 2005, offering a wide range of professional photography services, prints, and workshops.
Lem has been an avid photographer since 1983, from using a manual SLR to digital medium format system. Starting with black and white photography and film processing from his institution’s photography club, he quickly then moved on to colour films and slides. His desire to attain better image quality motivated him to upgrade to the medium format system. Hereafter, he focused on studio and portrait photography. He is often fascinated with the results of his photography work, and sees photography as a way to communicate his thoughts on the ever-changing world. In 2003, he advanced to the digital photography system.
After 12 years in this field, Lem took a dive into doing what he enjoys most, and started his very own photography business in 2005. He started with a studio of just 300 square feet providing photography services in events, portraits, and commercial products.
While business was forthcoming, Lem understood the need to improve his facilities and services in order to increase his clientele base, as well as to enhance his photographic experiences and competencies. Hence in 2006, he moved to a 1,000 square feet studio and expanded his services to include studio rental and professional large format and fine art giclee printing.
Just 3 years into business, Lem was ready to further upgrade his studio with the objective to provide photography services and studio facilities for professional clients in the advertising and media industry. In 2008, he bought a 1,400 square feet industrial space and transformed it into a state-of-art eggshell drive-in studio with a fully equipped, ready-to-use professional studio. With this concept, studio photography from fashions, portraits, products, to automotives and even videography is a breeze. |
